Daily Benefits of Eating Well
You have probably heard the long-term effects of healthy eating: increased lifespan, weight management, prevention of chronic diseases such as some cancers, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, strokes, etc. The prevention of these diseases can be a great motivator, but what can we expect to notice on a daily basis if we are eating well? And what does eating well consist of?
Eating well includes variety, balance and moderation. We need certain nutrients from a variety of foods to keep our heart beating, brain thinking, blood flowing and muscles working. Eating well means eating regularly every 3-5 hours beginning with breakfast, consuming fruits and vegetables, whole grains, low fat dairy, lean meats and healthy fats with a low - moderate alcohol intake (not excessive) and drinking adequate amounts of water. Eating well also means limiting fried foods, fast foods, packaged and processed foods, saturated and trans fats, sugary sweets and drinks and eating too much of any foods. If you eat well on a daily basis, expect to notice these daily benefits:
Increased energy - you will experience higher energy levels throughout the entire day with energy to spare to workout after work.
Improved self-image - you will feel good about yourself and the way you look. You will have a healthy glow about you; healthy skin, hair and nails.
Increased concentration and clarity in thinking - you will be more effective, productive and attentive with your job and family.
Improved mental well being - you can reduce depression and increase your mood by eating properly; you will experience less irritability and moodiness.
Get stronger - eating well will support daily exercise to give you strong bones and muscles.
Feel well - when you fuel your body with healthy foods, you will just feel better than when you skip meals or eat unhealthy foods. You will be better able to fend off sickness and boost your immune system.
